Meet the Artist

 My artistic journey began amidst the challenging "Special Period" in Cuba during the 1990s. It was then that I enrolled in the Experimental Center for Visual Arts in Havana, my hometown. This pivotal opportunity allowed me to delve into the diverse aspects of art, from foundational drawing to painting, sculpture, and engraving on wood, glass, and stones. I also explored graphic design, ceramics, and other formats, all of which enriched my technique and illuminated my unique path. Mentors like Nelson Dominguez and Saida del Rio guided me in person, while the distant inspiration of my uncle Jose M. Acosta Miyer and Tomas Sanches https://www.tomassanchez.com/  fueled my perseverance.

 I could give well-deserved mention to many other artists whose contributions strengthened my persistent steps toward knowing myself more through the arts, among them: Maurits Cornelis Escher, or as he is known, MC Escher, Vincent Van Gogh, Wifredo Lam, Victor Manuel Garcia Valdes, Georges Braque. My techniques incorporate a collection of their nuances, and I frequently turn to studying these great masters to create my own style.

I had to shape my career more as a craftsman to survive economically, but on a few occasions, I participated anonymously in murals by other Cuban artists for political reasons. Although I didn't achieve the prestige I hoped for, I enjoyed working with such big names of that era.
